Bollé Prescription Safety Glasses
For 120 years, Bollé Safety is now more than ever one of the indisputable leaders in the safety market. Established in 1888 in Oyonnax in the Ain region of France, Bollé has just begun its second century of business. Bollé has become a byword for quality and enjoys a glowing international reputation for sports and protective eyewear.
Fix8 are working with Bollé to offer Bollé prescription safety glasses. The brand range of prescription safety spectacles has been carefully selected to ensure a wide choice of frames with both plastics and metals there’s something for everyone. The range of frames can be glazed with 3 types of prescription lenses (single vision, bifocal or progressive) and 3 different lens materials (polycarbonate, CR39 or toughened glass).
Single Vision Lenses:
Called single vision, these lenses comprise of only one correction for a given distance: for myopia, for hypermetropia, for presbyopia and/or the astigmatism. They are known as simple since the optical power is the same for all of the lens.
Bifocal Lenses:
Bifocal lenses are intended for a person who needs two corrections, one for distance and for near vision, the top part of the lens corrects distance vision and the lower segment corrects near vision.
Progressive or Varifocal Lenses:
Progressive or varifocal lenses do not have any visible lines so they are therefore more pleasing from an aesthetic point of view. The power gradually changes from the top to the bottom of the lens. It is a more functional lens because the person wearing this type of lens has “continuous” vision. It makes it possible to see all objects located at variable distances whereas a bifocal lens only allows clear vision at two distances.
Polycarbonate:
The principal characteristic of polycarbonate is its shock resistance. This lens material is the most impact resistant by far.
Polycarbonate is 10% thinner than glass and 15% thinner than the plastic lenses. But like plastic it is soft and can scratch very easily, a scratch resistant coating is applied as standard. This material is particularly recommended in areas where high impact protection is required. Polycarbonate has also the advantage of absorbing all ultraviolet rays up to 380 Nm (100%). CE norms EN166
CR39 (Plastic):
CR39 is a plastic resin. Its advantages are impact resistance, it is 50% lighter than toughened glass, less resistant to chemicals but they absorb more ultraviolet rays. On the other hand, they can scratch easily, to prevent this an anti-scratch coating is applied as standard. At equal power they are thicker than glass lenses. An anti-reflection coating is less effective here than on a glass lens. CE norms EN166
Toughened Glass:
This material is composed of sand and chemical elements that constitute traditional glass. Its principal properties are an excellent optical quality and good scratch resistance. Thus, nearly 92% of the light is transmitted by mineral glass. Its main disadvantage is its increased weight but its major defect lies in its low impact resistance and the fact that it fractures into several pieces that could damage the eye. CE norms EN166
